Agoraphobic Outing to the New Westminster Mall

Today I was out for just 2 hours over the Patullo Bridge to New Westminster’s Mall at 6th Street and Sixth Avenue – 6th @ 6th.

I did a mall walk first and I lingered in Black Bond Books. I was vaugely tempted by a Calvin and Hobbes and a For Better or For Worse behind the strip books, but I didn’t get them.

I was sorta planned to get some chocolate, but it was  Purdy’s, which is a step above the Dairy Magic Black Box Drugstore candy, the bottom of the Boutique Chocolatiers and with Lady Godiva prices. So I didn’t linger in there, a chocolate store without the smell of chocolate and only the wrappings was not enticing.

I did get some delicious sushi from the food court and I think the joint is actually just called Fresh Sushi. The court has the pizza slice counter, the sushi stall, then a Flaming Wok, another asian place I can’t remember..a greek Opa and an A&W is the only National Franchise. Then there’s the European Coffee that Vancouver has embraced as The Beverage – Lattes and Cappuccinos.

The Sushi place has a unique Kiwi Roll – it’s a tempura prawn in seasweed/rice with kiwi slices drapped on the outside. It’s my fave and I got that and a Mango Roll – tuna and cucumber inside the seaweed/rice with mango slices and a spicey red sauce and small orange roe.

I also like that they don’t colour their ginger, so it was nice juicy white thin slices, a dip into the soy/wasabi mix and the sweet, salty, spicey, soy notes with the crisp and mushy textures was a sensory delight of taste, smell and textures.

I think it was really only the mango slices that made the latte work the full flavour spectrum. Usually I get the green or black tea as a palette cleanser.

I have a comfort limit of 5 hours AFL. (away from lair). LOL. heheehehe.

it is because of an event that happened in spring of 2012, and I ended up at the YVR – The Vancouver Airport for 5 hours.

waiting hoping realizing denial and finally giving up – the five hours in the airport

While I was there, I had my ears talked off by a professional driver about the Tasering Incident and I couldn’t get him to stop and it was hard. I had worked for both RCMP and Transport Canada and while it was Customs and Citizenship and Immigration who had direct handling, it is really hard to have to try to explain to strangers that you really can’t talk about an issue and don’t want to hear their conspiracy crap and government ranting.

funny how these government experts have never worked inside to have any actual clue – and there’s no point in trying to correct them – actual experience and knowledge just makes them more belligerent in their uneducated and ill-informed opinions.

it is partly why people who work for government have a hard time being friends with people in the public. Not being able to share about your work and not really wanted to get blasted for anything government as if it’s actually on your desk.

Anyway, it’s 2015 and it was the New Westminster Mall and the place was mostly empty and almost everyone was over 70 or in their early 20s with small kids.
