but in your experienced 30’s?

not so much

and besides, that the song for when you are alone – it’s also about getting to that place, eh?

This is the original version of Elvis’ 2002 #1 smash hit “A Little Less Conversation” taken from his 1968…

A little bit of self indulgence here!! This is my favourite version of this song and that includes the studio master from American Sound Studios in Memphis on February 19th, 1969. Having included it in his setlist for his second Vegas season with a few tweeks from the studio master. Firstly there was a subtle lyric change in the chorus (“And up ahead’s another town, that I’ll go walking through” became “And up ahead’s another town, that I’ll be walking through”) and there was a heavier drum influence both after the pause at the chorus end and at the songs finale.
It is also one of the few live versions of this song where Elvis plays it absolutely straight, the norm was for him to change “Showed your photograph to some old grey bearded men” to “some old grey bearded fools” plus the intro to this one seems smoother than other live versions.
Originally released on the 1980 silver box set, Elvis Aron Presley and was a real treat at the time. It took until 2010 for it to appear on another album, as a bonus track on the On Stage Legacy Edition.
Recorded Live in Las Vegas at the International Hotel during the Dinner Show on 16 February 1970.

  • Nina K Tryggvason YES – this is exactly the kind of mature relationship take that elvis was more interested in than getting the girl. getting is easy, keeping is the challenge

We’ve seen all six minutes and ten seconds of this in TTWII but to me it remains the best 50’s medley that Elvis ever did bearing in mind that in August 69 the songs were more individually performed that is to say there was more of a break between them.
In years to come he would either perform a medley of about six songs over three and a half minutes or do them individually but sometimes they would last barely a minute – not necessarily a criticism – just the way it was (no pun intended).

    • Nina K Tryggvason Elvis was never a nostalgia act, so it was more a nod to thrill the fans and focus on the music of the day
    • Leon Smith To be honest Nina, and I’ve been virtually abused for saying this, but Elvis found himself with a problem post August 69 that would dog him for the next eight years. He was in his mid thirties and songs that were hits over ten years before were not really of that much relevence to Elvis now. From Feb 1970 onwards his commitment lay with more contemporary material and as the decline came more to big ballads, in the studio at least. It was also clear that he had to include the ‘oldies’ in the setlist so they became a pausing point where he could catch his breath whilst handing out scarves. All comletely sensible and rational to me.
    • Nina K Tryggvason  Yes. Artists have to play the old hits to satisfy the fans – this is partly what held Elvis back in the day. fans were content with what got churned out and Elvis took the path of least resistance.

Noises by Nina – Record Reviews

when Lisa Marie was born in 1968; there was a fan push for an Elvis album of lullabyes.

It is actually too bad they didn’t – it would have been a way to ensure Elvis fans for generations to come.

In any event, RCA did release an Elvis album in the 1970s childrens record market – a collection of mostly throwaway movie songs.

One of the bottom 5 Elvis releases that were not soundtracks.
