The Canada news showed Judge Wapner when they announced the death of American actor Bill Paxton.
From the “They were still alive file”: Judge Wapner, also died today, and has the dubious distinction of being the start of realityish court-ish tv, which lead to entire channels and all kinds of copy cat shows and began the trend towards apparently unscripted people acting as poorly as possible for ratings “reality shows”
Appropriate from a nation who’s current President’s previous job was a Reality TV show host.
Also, there’s the Bill Paxton-Bill Pullman confusion, guys who look a bit alike and play the same kinds of roles.
Bill Paxton was one of my faves in several franchises; he holds the distinction of being the only actor killed by a Terminator, Alien and a Predator.
Paxton was a vampire in Near Dark, the first one to suggest a blood transfusion as a vampire cure – edgy and gorey at the time, it seems more comedy 3 decades plus on, but it remains a guilty pleasure flick for me, unlike Weird Science where he was the bully older sibling. Predator vs puerile sexism.
Paxton might be best known for his tv series, Big Love, which was groundbreaking tv showcasing polygamy attempting to mainstream.
