SE Hinton, famed writer of The Outsiders and three other teen novels from the 1960s that had to be published with intials because such a book by a girl would not be published or sell.

For boys to read it, it had to be another boy who wrote it.

by the 1980s, it was okay for people to know SE was Susan Hinton and her slice of life teen at odds with poverty and privilege were made as the core of the Brat Pack Movies.

Like JK Rowling after her, the attempt at adult literature failed.

Unlike JK Rowling after he, Hinton is keeping her books a hetero only club and being asked to be inclusive is somehow a threat to her.

While, unlike Hinton, Rowling has tried to extend her Potterworld to be too inclusive to become culturally co-optive.
