My first microscope

Nina and her microscope

One of the few childhood toys I hung onto was my first microscope.

Sears microscope

By 3rd grade I was running around outside collecting samples to put on slides.

This came with a battery powered light source but that was lost a long time ago.

using the mirror, like scientists did when these devices were first developed was funner

dusty optics

There’s a lot of memes on facebook about what you would say to your younger self.

My politics and world view haven’t changed since my teenaged years I was relieved to discover when I posted my teenaged and college poetry: Confessions of a Teenaged Poet

but if I could send a message back in time

it would be to continue on in the sciences

researching micro flora and fauna

and leave the arts as a private hobby

science might blow and change your mind

but it takes the arts to break your heart
