http://www.elvisinfonet.com/ news item: Elvis ‘Comeback Special’ 45 Years ago Today: At 9pm on December 3rd, 1968 NBC TV aired “SINGER presents ELVIS.” The programme gave NBC its highest ratings victory of the year and the general public, along with every fan, knew that ELVIS was BACK! 1968 would end with the most sensational ‘comeback’ of all time.
While the LA Times showed just how out of touch it was by stating, “I don’t think many viewers care to see singers sweat on TV” – it was these very beads of sweat that demonstrated just how much Elvis cared for his music. The TV special revealed the passion & intensity of Elvis as he broke free from the movie soundtracks, stood up against the Colonel’s idea of a “family TV special” and reclaimed his crown. Nothing would ever be the same.
“It was the finest music of his life. If ever there was music that bleeds, this was it.” -Greil Marcus
December 3 is the anniversary of the broadcast of the Singer Presents Elvis television special known almost instantly as The Comeback Special.
I talk about it in terms of Elvis in these 2 videos, but I have had a stressful day and I found it really hard to focus so I am unsure if they make sense or not. but here they are for comparison:
Elvis Comeback take 1
Elvis Comeback take 2
For me, this show became something of a repeated theme
I keep hearing a sound like from the Atari 2600 game breakout, when you have all three balls above the wall.. that more complex pattern
but it’s overlaid with Elvis “The police came out and filmed the show.”
I relate to Elvis, fer shoore, eh?
except using my finger would have been a bad idea
so I didn’t move anything for fear
when you cannot fight or flight
you can only be still
