Give us this day -May 16 – our daily Elvis
The Presley family moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, where Vernon got himself a job. They stayed there until June 20, and then they all returned to Tupelo, homesick for family and friends.
Elvis performed at the Mosque Theater, Richmond, Virginia.
Elvis performed at the Robinson Memorial Auditorium, Little Rock, Arkansas at 7.00 and 9.30 p.m. Elvis was asked by a local DJ to name his favorite song and Elvis picked “I Was The One”, from his first RCA session.
Elvis was released from the hospital.
Elvis went to the Memphian to see Peter Sellers’ A Shot In The Dark.
Back in the recording studio in Nashville for his upcoming Christmas album, Elvis and the band started to jam during a break. “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” of Bob Dylan went on for more than 11 minutes. Unfortunately Elvis lost his interest for the Christmas album afterwards and the band did 3 instrumental tracks.
Elvis performed at the High Sierra Room, Sahara Tahoe Hotel, Stateline, Nevada, where he opened this engagement with 2 cocktail shows.
in 1987, my Aunt Olof won a trip for 2 to go to Graceland and she took me.
It was the most thrilling vacation of my whole life.
There were 6 Canadians in the group all told.
A couple from the Maritimes – John and Joan
A couple from a prairie province – Lorne and Linda
then Olof and Nina from British Columbia.
I remember a conversation with Linda – she was in her mid 30’s and I was 19.
Linda didn’t want to beleive the drug cause/contribution to Elvis’ death, but I managed to get her to see the connection.
Then she said the most astonishing thing – that she was basically blaming Priscilla for Elvis’ decline and death.
“Can you beleive she divorced him?”
“Yes.” I said. “I would would have too if I was in the same position. He basically ignored her after they got married. He left her alone, didn’t let her have any sort of career outlet and there’s only so many things you can do when you live in a gilded cage and your every move is watched by the press.”
That Elvis pushed her into karate where she met Mike Stone – a man who paid attention to her.
Elvis himself didn’t want to be married and as much as he craved having a family as close as the one he was raised in – he was not willing to allow his spouse to be his partner.
Given that his last girlfriend was just under half his age
Elvis, at 42, was dating a 20 year old, Ginger Alden.
I think if he had married Ann-Margaret, he’d still be alive now – because she was his equal.
